(ii) Assimilation: ἐν becomes ἐμ- before β, μ, π, φ, ψ ; ἐγ- before γ, κ, ξ, χ ; ἐλ- before λ . But in the older MSS of NT, followed by modern editions, assimilation is sometimes neglected, as in ἐνγράφω, ἐγκαινίζω , etc.
