7 πτῶμα , -τος, τό ( πίπτω ), [in LXX: Jg 14:8 ( מַפֶּלֶת ), Jb 16:15 ( 14 ) ( פֶּרֶץ ), Is 51:19 ( שֹׁד ), Jth 8:19 , Wi 4:18 , al.;] a fall , metaph., a misfortune , calamity (Trag., Plat., Polyb., al.; LXX). That which has fallen; of buildings, a ruin (Polyb.); of living creatures, in cl. (poët. only) usually c. gen., νεκρῶν , etc., but also absol., as in late writers and NT, a fallen body , a carcase , corpse : Mt 14:12 24:28 , Mk 15:45 ; π. αὐτοῦ , Mk 6:29 ; αὐτῶν , Re 11:8 , 9 (cf. Rutherford, NPhr. , 472 f.).†
