5 ὑπερ-έχω [in LXX: Ge 25:23 ( אָמַץ ), Ex 26:13 ( עֲדַף ), Si 36:7 , al. ;] trans., to hold over or above . Intrans. (when a noun follows, the case is governed by the prep.; v. Bl., § 34, 1; 36, 8), to rise above, overtop ; metaph., to be superior in rank, etc.: Ro 13:1 , I Pe 2:13 (cf. Wi 6:6 ); to be superior, excel, surpass : c. gen. (cl.; v. supr.), Phl 2:3 ; c. acc (cl.; v. supr.), Phl 4:7 ; as subst., τ. ὑπερέχον , the excellency, the surpassing worth, Phl 3:8 .†
