ὑπερήφανος (G5244)
5 ὑπερήφανος , -ον ( ὑπέρ , φαίνομαι , c. η pleonast., v. Kühner3, I, 189) [in LXX for זֵד , גֵּאֶה , לוּץ , etc. ;] showing oneself above others ; in good sense (Plat., al.), pre-eminent, splendid; more freq. in had sense, and so always in Scr., arrogant, haughty, disdainful (v. Westc. Epp. Jo. , 65 b ): Ro 1:30 , II Ti 3:2 ; διανοίᾳ καρδίας , Lk 1:51 ; opp. to ταπεινός (as in Pr 3:34 ), Ja 4:6 , I Pe 5:5 (LXX) .† SYN. : ἀλαζών , ὑβριστής , v. Tr., Syn. , § xxix
